13 – 17 March 2016 in Berlin, Germany

Like in 2007 and 2012, in 2016 RRFM, the European Research Reactor Conference will be jointly organised with IGORR, the International Group Operating Research Reactors. As for the previous editions we expect again over 240 participants from more than 40 countries worldwide for this important get-together of the Research Reactor Community.

RRFM/IGORR 2016 will serve as an international forum for researchers, operators and decision-makers.

The conference programme will revolve around plenary sessions dedicated to the latest global developments with regards to research reactor technology and management systems and parallel sessions focusing on specific research projects and initiatives.

PROGRAMME

Technical Tour to the EUREF Campus

The tour will have three different parts:
Introductory Tour „EUREF Campus – An urban district of the future – already today“

The EUREF Campus (www.euref.de) is a model of sustainable construction with carbon-free maintenance and smart energy management systems like the Micro Smart Grid. The campus shows the idea of the intelligent city of tomorrow. The guide will present the history and vision of the campus and its different topics: mobility, energy and green buildings.

Schneider Electric

Schneider Electric has developed world-leading capabilities to manage the full life cycle of energy and industrial needs. Participants of the RRFM Technical Tour will meet the specialists for energy management and automation of Schneider Electric who supplied the technology for the Micro Smart Grid and other intelligent E-house-Equipment on the EUREF-campus. www.schneider-electric.com

KIC InnoEnergy Germany GmbH

KIC InnoEnergy is one of the first Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs) fostered by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). The European company is dedicated to promoting innovation, entrepreneurship and education in the sustainable energy field by bringing together academics, businesses and research institutes. The aim is to make a positive impact on sustainable energy in Europe. KIC InnoEnergy is a commercial company with 27 shareholders that include top ranking industries, research centres and universities, all of which are key players in the energy field. www.kic-innoenergy.com

Departure from the conference hotel: 9.30
Return at the conference hotel: 13.00
The number of participants for this group is limited to 20.

Technical Tour to the Helmholtz Zentrum Berlin

The Helmholtz Zentrum Berlin operates two scientific large-scale facilities for research on the structure and function of matter: research reactor BER II for neutron experiments and synchrotron radiation source BESSY II, which generates highly brilliant synchrotron radiation from the terahertz to the X-ray spectrum. Both facilities are equipped with highly specialized sample environments. Experiments can be performed under the most sophisticated conditions like high magnetic fields, extremely low temperatures, or high pressures. The instruments’ continued refinement at the two large-scale facilities is one the Center’s main jobs.

The tour will focus on the Lise-Meitner-Campus and the Neutron Scattering Experiments at the BER II Research Reactor.

Departure from the conference hotel: 9.00
Return at the conference hotel: 13.00
The number of participants for this group is limited to 50

Social program

Networking is a major benefit of the RRFM/IGORR conference. The social events help connect the conference delegates and are included in the registration fee.

Welcome Drink

Get in touch before the conference starts at the RRFM/IGORR 2016 Welcome Drink. The Welcome Drink will take place from 18.00 – 19.00 on Sunday 13 March in foyer in front of the main conference room, Kurland. It will be preceded by a Pre-registration which ensures a smooth registration prior to the conference.

RRFM/IGORR 2016  Conference Dinner

The RRFM/IGORR 2016 Conference Dinner will take place on Tuesday 15 March 2016, at the event venue ‘Wasserwerk’. Constructed as a water pumping station, this listed building is a typical example of industrial architecture from the beginning of the 20th century. Its enormous transmission belts and pumps still exist and offer a stunning dinner experience for RRFM/IGORR delegates.

Venue

‘Ich bin ein Berliner!’

Berlin, Germany’s capital and cultural center, is a world city of culture, politics, media, and science. Divided during the Cold War, today it’s known for its art scene, nightlife, museums and modern architecture, such as Mies van der Rohe’s landmark Neue Nationalgalerie.

Walk along remnants of the Berlin Wall, marvel at the splendour of a Prussian palace, visit Checkpoint Charlie and many other reminders of the city’s turbulent 20th-century history. Berlin is like an endlessly fascinating 3D textbook where the past is very much present wherever you go.

The IAEA invites particularly young people to apply for a travel grant.

The criteria for selection are:
  • The candidate must be a national from an IAEA Member State eligible to receive assistance under the Agency’s Technical Co-operation Programme;
  • The candidate must present an oral paper or poster accepted by the Programme Committee
  • Priority will go to first-time applicants

If you are interested in a travel grant, please fill in the Grant Application Form below and send it back via your official National authority (Ministry of Foreign Affaires or National Atomic Energy Authority) to the

International Atomic Energy Agency
