TVO and Fortum Supporting The Polish Nuclear Power Programme
TVO Nuclear Services (a subsidiary of Teollisuuden Voima Oyj, ENS Corporate Member) and Fortum have signed a two-year framework agreement with Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe (PEJ), a state-owned company responsible for the construction project of the first nuclear power plant in Poland.
The goal of the agreement is to support PEJ in the development of operation and maintenance processes of the new nuclear power plant.
TVO and Fortum’s Nuclear Services will provide technical support e.g. for the licensing and design phase of the plant and help PEJ to develop its own internal capabilities to become an operator of a nuclear power plant.
PEJ is responsible for the preparation of the investment process for the construction of the first Polish nuclear power plant in Pomerania with a capacity of up to 3,750 MW.
Based on the Polish Nuclear Power Programme the development of nuclear power is one of the pillars of Poland’s energy transition, which involves the construction of safe and modern Generation III(+) PWR nuclear reactors.

The ambitious programme and the related growing demand for workforce are leading Poland to actively develop strong partnerships between industry and academia.
Several companies and Polish universities are launching new nuclear energy-related courses and projects, aimed at educating and training the country’s future nuclear workforce.
Promptly filling the gaps and enhancing international cooperation at every level – universities, industry, and research – is vital to succeed.
This is one of the key points highlighted by Pawel Gajda in our recent interview on needs, strategies and capabilities for the Polish nuclear programme. Read the full interview here.
