The European Nuclear Society’s High Scientific Council presented its first PhD award to Hungary’s Dr Zsolt Elter for outstanding scientific research in the field of nuclear science and engineering.
The award ceremony was held on 14 May 2019 at the occasion of the International Congress on Advances in Nuclear Power Plants, or ICAPP, in France.
Dr Elter has a physics MSc from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics and a PhD from the Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden. During his PhD programme he spent over two years at the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission’s Cadarache research centre in France. During his PhD, Dr. Elter studied theoretical, numerical, and experimental aspects of advanced neutron monitoring using higher order Campbelling methods and his main achievements are summarized in his dissertation entitled “Neutron monitoring based on the higher-order statistics of fission chamber signals”.
The High Scientific Council advises ENS on developments, trends, and prospects in nuclear science, engineering, and technology. Members come from ENS member countries.
ENS said it organised the PhD award initiative to encourage excellence, innovation, and originality in nuclear research and engineering.
