Dialogue

... within our own community

To balance the drive towards increasing 'specialisation', nuclear professionals need to maintain a broad outlook on the social, economic and political issues related to nuclear technology. Being able to place nuclear issues in a wider perspective will permit a deeper insight into the future role of nuclear technology in our society, and allow for more credible debates with people who have different ideas on the topic. Our professionals need to have the courage to 'think in public', instead of trying to prepare a defence behind closed doors.

... with civil society

Communication with civil society means more than simply disseminating information to decision-makers, interest groups and the general public. Communication is 'by definition' bi-directional and interactive. Also, the nuclear community can learn from its dialogues by listening to concerns and suggestions from the general public and from stakeholders.
